Description: Old MacDonald would still have his farm if he had these animals.  Join Connie and Karen to make these wonderful fun ornaments from quikwood , a small bottle gourd, and egg gourds. You will make and paint a cow and a chicken.  All students should be able to finish the two projects completely.

Instructor Will Provide: Gourds (cleaned and ready to paint),  Paint, quikwood, hangers, paper plates, paper towels,  petroleum jelly cream, hand-sanitizer, wet wipes, clay tools, and tutorial.

Students Should Bring: Donna Dewberry One Stroke Basic Acrylic Brush Set:
3/4” Flat Brush, #12 Flat Brush , 1/2” Scruffy Brush, #2 Script Liner

Description: Come join the fun to create this wonderful beehive birdhouse.  Students will be instructed in the Donna Dewberry technique from Sandy, a Certifying Elite with Dewberry Designs. The students will create a "beehive" on the gourd, then add beautiful flowers, leaves, and bees.  You can even add a few grapes.  What a treat for all your feathered friends.

Instructor Will Provide: Gourd (Cut, Cleaned and ready to paint), Paint, Paper Plates, Paper Towels, Hanger, sponge daubers and Tutorial

The Snow is Coming

Description: In this class, students will learn how to make a snow person luminary. They will start by sculpting the nose, arms, scarf, and ear muffs, using QuikWood, and will insert the wire for the ear muffs and drill the snowflake designs around their snowperson.  They will then paint their creation with acrylic paints, and apply a glaze/sealer.  They will learn how to assemble the light kit; and will leave with a great luminary to use during the winter months. This luminary makes a wonderful night light that can be used in your entryway, bathroom, or anywhere you need an extra bit of light.

Instructor Will Provide: all other supplies needed for the class including: a cut, cleaned, and sanded gourd; acrylic paints; glaze/sealer; brush basin; brushes; QuikWood; 5-in-1-clay tools; 2 small pieces of wire; light kit (base, wire, and bulb); scissors, paper towels; vinyl gloves; tutorial with instructions and a full color photo of the finished project in a vinyl sheet cover; and a couple of hair driers for those who may not have one.

Students Should Bring: Apron/Smock to protect their clothing; hair drier; rotary tool/drill with 2 different sized drill bits; and any of their favorite brushes.

Adding Dimension with Fabric Stabilizer

Description: You will receive gourd with face attached.  Then you will learn to finish face and using Dazzling Metallics, apply a finish to body.  You will learn to attach and position wire arms and decorate the gourd with fabrics, threads, etc. without using glue!

Instructor Will Provide: Gourd with face attached, wire for arms,fabrics, basket, fabric stabilizer and any other embellishments.  (Stand is not included)

Students Should Bring: Small paint brushfor finishing face and a small, scruffy brush for applying fabric textures, scissors and small jewelry pliers IF you have them  Also a small blow dryer tospeed up drying time.

Pine Needle Basket with Agate Slice/Gemstone Center

Description: This class covers the basics of pine needle basket coiling to create a 6" - 7" basket with a gemstone center. Students will be able to build their own basket kit. Agate slices or Cabochon stones available for the student to choose for their center. Center will be set in resin with holes drilled, ready to stitch. Natural and dyed pine needles, as well as waxed threads and sinews available in a variety of colors to coordinate with your stone center.

Instructor Will Provide: Everything needed to complete a basket

Students Should Bring: Nothing

Get Crackin’ . . . Gourd Shard Crabs

Description: Not sure what to do with all your broken gourds and gourd shards?  This fun project class will walk you through the steps of making a whimsical crab wall hanging. The instructor will guide the students through the process of cutting, coloring and assembling the pieces on a prepared barn wood  mount.  The project is finished with optional embellishment items to make it a one of a kind piece.

Instructor Will Provide: Barnwood, Gourd shards, embellishment items, inks for color

Students Should Bring: Gourd saw, pencil, drill with drill bit set, and small pliers for bending wire

Adobe Vase

Description: Using a prepared and cut Welburn body gourd, students will carve out three “cracks” in the vase.  These will be woodburned to simulate bricks.  After adding QuikWood as houses and cactus, we will apply a mixture of interior house paint and a sand paint mixture. This class is MESSY.  Final touches include highlights and windows on the houses and cactus. 

Instructor Will Provide: Cleaned, cut and open Welburn gourd, tutorial, pattern, tube of QuikWood, paint, brushes, disposable gloves, misc. clean up materials, several paint shades, Sand Paint, misc. jars.

Students Should Bring: Woodburner and favorite tip, carver with inverted cone, dust mask, heat gun and willingness to get messy and have fun.

Marbling Technique

Description: Each student will have their own set of Marbling paint to use and take home to make more (set has 6 colors).  I will show you how to use this product on 1 gourd and 1 ornament gourd that I will have prepared for class with white enamel spray.  I will also demo the marbling on a raw gourd.  This is a fun and easy class and no gourd is the same.  We will not be adding a rim to the gourd.

Instructor Will Provide: 1 prepared gourd bowl and 1 prepared ornament gourd

Students Should Bring: Gloves, needle nose pliers, tall bucket (this product stains the sides so bring a cheap one.  I will bring a few with me or we can share).  If you want to bring some extra gourds to play with during class email me.

Octopadoddle

Description: Creating a tangled seashore weave with black permanent markers on prepared white gourds.
Using shoreline designs of octopus, shells, fish, netting, we will doodle a fine design on whole or cut gourds. Students may
choose to do non-shore designs as well.

Instructor Will Provide: ________Everything will be provided including some whole and some pre-cut gourds that have been cleaned and painted with white smooth surface, permanent black markers of several point sizes matt acrylic paint to seal and lots of designs to choose from

 

Students Should Bring: May bring special, personal designs to work from

 

 

 

 

 

 

Volunteer Session—S-AM-12
