Pine Needle Necklace

Description: Weave pine needles around an electrified gourd circle using wax linen. There will be different colors of pine needles and wax linen to choose from.  Add beads and embellishments to make a beautiful necklace.  (The gourd circles have already been electrified by Suzi Nonn.)

Students Should Bring: Nothing

Blingin' In the Holiday

Description: Come create this wonderful, crackled tree that also serves as an ornament holder. The student will crackle the tree, hand crafted by Terry, on both sides and add rhinestone bling. Students will use the same process to create a beautiful matching gourd ornament . What a delightful, special gift to give someone (or keep for yourself!)

Students Should Bring: apron, old paint brushes, water basin

Bamboo Vase

Description: In this class, students will base-coat a gourd vase black. They will then learn how to paint bamboo and leaves by “floating” metallic gold paint, and flowers with white acrylic paint.  They will have time to practice the strokes before proceeding to paint the designs on their gourds.  After completing the painting, they will apply a sealer/varnish and attach a gold cord to the top of the vase.

Students Should Bring: an apron/smock to protect their clothes

Beginning Pyrography—Woodburning Birds

Instructor: Fonda Haddad

Description: Basic pyrography-students will begin with choosing either a blue jay or cardinal design and placing it on the gourd.  Woodburn the outline, filling in detail, shading and finally adding a touch of color.  Emphasis will be on feather patterns and shading.

Students Should Bring: thermostatic controlled woodburner with writing tip and shading tip.  I usually use Colwood “C” and “J”, but small, medium and large ball will work or other brands for detail and shading.  I have several woodburners and tips but not enough for the whole class.

It’s All about that Jack

Description: Suzi has written books featuring her famous “Jacks”, so come take this fun class and create “Jacks” with her. Get imaginative creating Jack-O-Lanterns that will be mounted on a piece of barn wood.  In class students will draw, cut, and highlight the lines in small Jack-O-Lanterns. After arranging them on a piece of barn wood, students will the learn how to attach the individual faces. After all it is all about that Jack.  There is not a tutorial for this class.

Students Should Bring: A mini jigsaw, wood burner, or carver, dust mask and imagination

Stained Glass Window

Description: Using a canteen gourd we will woodburn the design then add color, put a base on and weave sea grass around the top.

Students Should Bring: woodburner, carver for stippling (with small burrs), and apron

“Bum” Duck

Description: The student will create a “Bum” Duck by taking a mini bottle gourd and turn it into a little beach duck..
