Saturday, February 28, 2015
Meeting was called to order at 12:00 P.M. by President, Ann Reich, in Melbourne, FL.
Patches in attendances were:
North East Patch 7
Secretary’s report – Greer Peters read the Minutes of the last meeting and minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer’s report – Sandra Jordan passed out the Balance Sheet and P&L Statement as of December 31, 2014. She also passed out P&L Statement of 2014 Gourd Festival. She reported that there are still bills outstanding for this year's festival, but they should be in by the time of the Breakout Meeting. 2014 books have been audited and approved. It was moved by Kathy Smith and seconded by Raymond Konan to accept the Treasurers report. Motion passed.
Gourd Festival – Larry Ferguson was thanked for hanging the plastic sheeting around the outside pavilion
President, Ann Reich, reported that the By-Laws committee is reviewing the by-laws. If they feel that there should be changes, those changes will be posted on line to all members at least 30 days prior to our fall membership meeting. Fall membership meeting will be at the Retreat in September, 2015. Voting on any changes will be at that membership meeting, which is our Annual Meeting.
Ann also noted that to be an official patch, 75% of the members in that patch must be members of FGSI. It was suggested that one way a patch could obtain those memberships is by having a guest visit 2 times (as a guest) and after that they would be required to payment FGSI dues.
Shari Zabroski has agreed to be the new Gourdvine Editor and also will forward FGSI news to the American Gourd Society quarterly magazine.
Therese Zamoiski, Vice President and Membership Chairman reported that we currently have 150 paid members. We mail 20 newsletters per quarter and the remainder is sent via e-mail.
At our fall membership meeting we will have election of officers, per our By-Laws. The positions of President and Vice President are up for election this year. Linda Vacca of North East Patch has agreed to be on the committee. Ann Reich requested two more volunteers for this committee. Gail Gowdy of Brevard Patch volunteered. Anyone else wishing to volunteer, please contact Ann Reich.
Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park – There will be an exhibit of gourds on display from Tuesday, May 5, 2015 to Sunday, August 9, 2015 called “Shapely Vessels: Gourds from around the World”. The gourds are on loan from Raymond Konan’s extensive collection. The exhibit will also include some live gourds growing in their garden for visitors to see. You may meet Mr. Konan at a Reception on May 22 at 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Mr. Konan is a FGSI member and belongs to the Seminole Patch.
A very large Thank You went out to Marcia White. Marcia is the person behind the computer programming for our organization that has allowed members to register on line for workshops, etc. She has done an outstanding job for us. She is our own “Gourd Techie”.
Gail Gowdy moved and Nancy Conway seconded to
adjourn the meeting. Meeting was
adjourned at 12:30 P.M.
