Saturday Afternoon Classes

Faux Leather Tooling with Basket Weave

Instructor: Troy Tatum


Description: In this fun class, you will be guided step by step through the creation of the look of tooled leather and basket weaving on a gourd. You will transfer the design, woodburn the outline, cut the top, stipple the background, color the outside and create the faux stitching around the design and top. We will focus on the slow burn shading technique to add the tonal values to the inside of the design.


Cost: Members: $60.00  Non-Members: $65.00


Day: Saturday Afternoon 

Time: 1:30-5:30

Skill Level: All


Students Must Bring: an adjustable temperature wood burner with a skew, large ball or other shading pen and a small ball or a writing tip pens. Students will also need a gourd saw, but I have one to use if they don't have one.

A Wee Stamped Bowl with Coiling and Beads

Instructor: Debbie Wilson


Description: Stamp some stained teabag papers with permanent stamp ink, line your gourd bowl, and then coil with dyed paper rush with a simple stitch. Beads are optional and will be varied

Students Must Bring: please bring a tapestry needle, and an apron, scissors, heat gun/blow dryer

Zig Zag Woven Basket

Instructor: Jim Anspach


Description: 6X6" Gourd base basket woven in an interesting design of zig zags ending with a strong rim.

Cost: Members: $50.00  Non-Members: $55.00


Day: Saturday Afternoon 

Time: 1:30-5:30

Skill Level: Advanced


Students need to bring: apron, towel, dish for soaking reed, snipers

Cats and Dogs

Instructor: Judi Fleming


Description: In this class you will learn how to make both a delightful dog and a cute cat from bottle gourds.  You will get supplies to make both, but will only have time to complete one of them. You'll learn QuikWood basics, how to paint realistic eyes and techniques to add ears for both dogs and cats. This is a fun, creative class and no two critters created in it will look the same! 

Cost: Members: $45.00  Non-Members: $50.00

A Faint Pattern: Light Carving and Filigree

Instructor: Fonda Haddad


Description: Using an oblong gourd with the top cut off and cleaned inside, we will create an elongated bowl. Inside will be sealed and the outside stained with leather dye or inks. An oval or circle will be carved into the gourd and design created with filigree pattern. If time allows a rim will be added with yarns or basketry materials.

Cost: Members: $50.00  Non-Members: $55.00

Students Must Bring: Dust mask - wood workers use if students are highly allergic to dust I will have standard masks ones for everyone. Everything else supplied
