Elegant Halloween Pumpkin

Skill Level: All

Description: The student will use a small canteen (cheese) gourd to create this elegant Halloween pumpkin. The student will also add Halloween Bling to make their pumpkin their very own. They will then learn how to create leaves and a triple cluster using the mudding technique. The student will have a choice of making a black pumpkin with white mud or an orange pumpkin with black mud. Mud is a dimensional paint developed by Margot Clark. Her mud and techniques will be used. The instructor will provide mud, brush, gourd (cleaned and painted students color of choice) and bling. Mudding kits will be available to purchase.

Students must bring: Nothing but an apron. Students may bring bling (this is a self-adhesive gemstone, usually found in the scrapbooking area) if they have something special they want on their pumpkin.

Simply Gourdgeous

Description: Twine and chase a simple basket on a painted and sealed craft ready gourd bowl. Embellish with beads of your choice.

Description: Make a striking Cameo Jewelry Tray, suitable for your dresser top. Comes with pre-made center featuring a cameo on a decorative wood background, set in epoxy resin, holes pre-drilled. Take Flight

Description: Come and make a functional gourd bird house. The roof is able to come off, for cleaning. You will stain the top and bottom of the birdhouse, with the color of your choice. Then we will weave a Gretchen boarder around the top. Finish with a sea grass hanger. There will be different shapes of gourds to choose from.

Zen-Tangle Like Designs

Description: This fun, creative class depends on your unique artistry to create a lovely piece of gourd art. Using a prepared cannon ball gourd, you will choreograph lines and squiggles in a calm-inducing experience many individuals use to de-stress from life's cares. No two are alike as each brings his/her own instincts to create a piece you will be proud to display! Get comfortable, take a few deep breaths and feel gratitude and appreciation - for this beautiful gourd, the tools and for the opportunity to create something beautiful! Soothing music provided!!!


Students Must Bring: Fine point, alcohol based, permanent ink black marker(s) (not Sharpie's which will blur). You can purchase a set of these in different colors if you wish or simply bring a black one to create the "tangle" lines.

Butterfly

Description: Sponged gourd green, then carved. Attached braided raffia and yarn.

Students must bring: Drill and small drill bit. Dust Mask. Carver and carving burrs, also diamond burrs, small sanding drums, extra fine sanding paper

Luffa Leaf Inserts        

Instructor: Troy Tatum

Description: Join us to learn a new technique of preparing and using luffa as an insert into a gourd. We will design, cut out the insert shapes, add sea grass or Danish cord, color the gourd and insert the luffa into this 6-7-inch gourd. We may not have time to add the rim but supplies and instructions will be furnished.

Students Must Bring: Adjustable temperature pyrography tool with a skew nib pen, a mini gourd saw or a dremel style tool or a micro carver with a Gourdmaster fili-point burr.

Fishy-Fishy

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: Try your hand at capturing multiple fish that are all seeking those big green blue bubbles in a feeding frenzy. This process is done on a sea colored gourd with surface carving and stippling a bubbled background.

Students Must Bring: Rotary tool with correct adaptors and collets that accepts 3/32 bits. A very small ball and medium ball are needed. Dental bits with the correct adaptor is good also. Apron and masks are needed. I will provide everything else.

Fuzzy Wuzzy Bowl

Description: Decoupage the interior of your gourd bowl with a paper napkin, then weave a colorful edging using dyed reed, fuzzy yarns and beads. Multiple color choices available

A Garden Wonder       

Instructor: Fonda Haddad

Description: Using the lace technique of Tenerife we will make lace flowers and garden designs on a prepared gourd. Part of the design will be in the open circle with jeweled centers and Tenerife weaving. Other designs will be on the solid gourd with punched holes for butterflies and beaded flowers. Inks may be used and then weaving on top to give a colorful effect. A veritable feast of fibers, beads, trinkets will be available to bring out everyone’s creativity.

Students Must Bring: any special beads or buttons they wish to use

Faux Geodes Embellishments

Skill Level: All

Description: You will learn how to create sparkling geode like slabs to use on or in your gourds. You will make at least 2 and perhaps 3 different sizes, 1"x 2", 3"x 2" and 3"x 4", of geodes with paint colors in the blue and purple family plus, glitter and glass crystals. These one of a kind embellishments can be applied on top of your gourd or hang in a cut out space with light behind to make them glow. We will only make the geodes in class as the geode process takes time and needs time to cure, but the instructor will bring sample of how to best use them to make outstanding gourds. Along with a detailed Tutorial with pictures and ideas on other ways you will want to use your beautiful geodes and a source list of materials needed. Instructor will bring all supplies as they are extensive and expensive. If students have a flat cookie sheet with or without edge please bring that (but it must be flat) and apron to cover your clothing and be ready to have a good time and experiment with new supplies..

Students Must Bring: a flat cookie sheet, scissors, old paintbrush #2 or #3, and apron

Giraffe

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: Students will wood burn a giraffe, from a photo of one of the giraffes at our Brevard County Zoo. We will then use dyes to add color to complete the project. Students must have a basic knowledge of wood burning.

Students Must Bring: Temperature controlled Wood burner; Standard Skew (SK2) tip;
