Easy Mini Gourd Lidded Basket

Description: You will learn how to stitch pine needles onto a prepared gourd using waxed linen. You will learn how to work on shaping to create a ledge for your lid. You will use a jewelry gourd as the handle for your lid and then add a little splash of bling with some glass seed beads and chip beads.

Students Must Bring: Sharp scissors, small wire cutters and small pair of needle nose pliers

Skill Level: All

Description: Have fun mixing and matching dyed pine needles, waxed linen, beads, and type of stitch; all to complement your gourd rim. All materials are provided for your selections, and unfinished gourds (medium round) will be available and ready to use. Note: You may bring your finished gourd if the opening is larger than your hand----holes will be drilled in class.

Students Must Bring: Small sharp pointed scissors and jewelry pliers.

Description: Looking for a gourd festival? Come create this beautiful sign in Pen and Ink Rouging. Sandy (a certified Mary Owens Instructor) will take you step-by-step-step, through the pen and ink rouging process. This unique process is done with India ink and oil paints. Everything to complete the class will be provided by the instructor. Come learn this beautiful technique.

Bamboo Vase          

Instructor: Sherry Briscoe

Skill Level: All

Description: In this class, students will learn how to base-coat a gourd eliminating those aggravating paint ridges. They will learn how to paint bamboo and leaves by “floating” gold paint, and flowers with white paint. They will have time to practice the strokes before proceeding to paint the designs on their gourds. After completing the painting, they will apply a sealer/varnish and attach a gold cord to the top of the vase.

Students must bring: An apron to protect your clothes, and a hair drier. If you have any favorite paint brushes, you may bring them, but the instructor will have brushes for student use.

Long Neck Pet         

Instructor: Misty Flynn

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: Make your pet into a long neck gourd pet whether it's a cat, dog or bird. You will chose the "face" gourd that best suits your pet and adding Quickwood (gloves with be provided for those with allergies) to accent what makes your pet special as well as adding paws, feathers, etc. to create your fur/feather baby. All supplies will be provided including: gourds, water buckets, paint brushes, paper towels, Quickwood, Sandpaper, petroleum jelly (to keep Quickwood from sticking to fingers), plastic tools to model the Quickwood with, paint, random animal pictures, packet with steps showing how my kitty/puppy were created, heat gun/blow dryer to hasten paint drying and sealing spray to seal the project with. You will also be able to choose a collar or scarf for your pet.

Students Must Bring: Pictures from different views of your pet, any favorite clay working tools, apron and any favorite paint colors/paint brushes

Scribble burn leaf with scribble carved rim     

Instructor: Troy Tatum

Skill Level: All

Description: Come scribble with us! We will utilize the underused technique of scribbling to burn the background of the leaf and to carve the rim treatment.

Students must bring: adjustable temperature pyrography tool with a skew nib pen and a small ball or writing nib pen and a Dremel type tool or a micro carver with medium sized inverted cone and a small to medium size ball steel burrs.

Beaded Coil

Skill Level: All

Description: Coil with paper rush on a multi colored gourd and then string and sew in beads that dangle and meander down one side for added pizzazz. Coiling is done with one simple stitch.
